The Economics of race and crime
This volume presents several classic and some new contributions by researchers on this topic. Included among the landmark historical articles are W.E.B. Du Bois's examination of crime in Philadelphia, and an analysis of black criminal behavior by Walter Wilcox, who was the chief statistician of the Census Bureau on Negro Crime. The contemporary articles use micro data to understand aspects of the criminal justice processes. They address education, employment, and crime, and the link between overall economic conditions and rates of incarceration
