Fly-in fly-out workforce practices in Australia : the effects on children and family relationships
The mining boom in Australia has led to a rapid increase in the fly-in fly-out/drive-in drive-out (FIFO/DIDO) workforce in recent years, and a corresponding concern for the impact that this lifestyle has on workers and their families. This paper summarises the emerging research literature on the impact of FIFO/DIDO working arrangements and lifestyle on children, couples, and family relationships, including the wide impacts of workplace and personal factors. The implications for policy, research, and practice are also discussed
