The Rutland Road
This is a history of the Rutland Railroad. Based out of Rutland, Vermont, the Railroad dates back to the Champlain and Connecticut River Railroad in 1843. It was built out of the need to connect the Atlantic shore to the Great Lakes. The 400-mile long line serviced Vermont and northern New York State until the early 1960s, succumbing to problems from labor issues, economic downturn and the loss of industry in the Northeast.
