In the first episode (Sentence of Death), James Dean plays "a young man in the wrong place at the wrong time," and Betsy Palmer appears as "the party girl." In the second episode (The Night America Trembled), Orson Welles' celebrated 1938 radio broadcast of War of the Worlds and the panicked reaction of the listening audience are re-enacted with commentary by Edward R. Murrow
