This book is not an anti-socialist treatise; on the contrary, Nove seeks to identify and define a 'feasible socialism', conceivable in the lifetime of a child already conceived, which avoids far-fetched or Utopian assumptions and the deformations of 'actually existing socialism' of the Soviet species. The final part of the book outlines a possible efficient and human socialism, and examines objections to these ideas from the Left and the Right
