Resource inventory report : the history of the Short Hills Effingham Park Reserve

The purpose of this study was to carry out an historical inventory of the Short Hills Provincial Park area to provide information for park master planning through the identification of historical themes in the area. Themes investigated include the schoolhouse in St. Johns West, the Inn on the Pelham Road on Theisen property (Lot 4, Concession 2, Pelham Township), DeCew Home on DeCew Road, grist mill on Scott property in St. Johns, dams, Beckett Grist Mill site (Sulphur Springs Road, Effingham), cemetery in St. Johns West, pioneer development, Loyalist settlement, Reynoldsville site, Morningstar Mill, Quaker settlement, War of 1812, Short Hills Rebellion of 1838, the role of the Short Hills in the defended border, 1815-1871, electrical energy transfer/hydro development (Power Glen)
