Galileo in China : relations through the Roman College between Galileo and the Jesuit scientist-missionaries (1610-1640)
Pasquale M. d' Elia, Rufus Suter (Translator), Matthew Sciascia (Translator), Donald H. Menzel
Galileo did not go to China, but his discoveries did when enthusiastic Jesuit scientist-missionaries tried combining the reform of the Chinese calendar with the conversion of Chinese souls. Galileo's evidence of a helio-centric universe had been condemned by the Catholic Church, but Father D'Elia finds that the Jesuits were more sympathetic to the astronomer than he appreciated.
