Composition and re-composition : Fury I and Fury II by Rebecca Saunders

Fury (2005), for solo double bass, and Fury II (2009), a concerto for double bass and ensemble by British composer Rebecca Saunders are a series of compositions using the same musical material. There are multiple series of works in her catalog as she often develops a series of works based on the initial musical idea through the process of recomposition or expansion. I will discuss a few series of compositions by Saunders that relate to each other in title, inspiration, or musical material, as well as write about Fury and Fury II with a comparative analysis of both works
