The intergenerational making of Clarissa Uprooted 2019-2023, Rochester NY

"Clarissa Uprooted offers living history that youth (ages 14-18) and elders (ages 70-98) worked together to unearth and share about how Rochester's first Black neighborhood was stolen and how the spirit of this village refuses to be erased. This book is a photographic review of the incredible evolution and effort by these Teen Empowerment Youth History Ambassadors and Clarissa Street Reunion Committee Elders (reconstituted in 2023 as Clarissa Street Legacy), with the inspired assistance of many wonderful partners from 2019-2023. The Clarissa Uprooted initiative focuses on the experience around Clarissa Street, the once thriving Black residential and business corridor in Rochester, NY's Third Ward (later rebranded as Corn Hill). Here, internationally renowned Jazz artists played, families sought their American Dream, and people looked out for one another--until the neighborhood was destroyed by urban renewal and highway construction in the early 1970s"--page [1]
