"Saddlebags are the only functional items that were produced in all areas of the Orient, by all nomadic and semi nomadic tribes, using all different techniques you can find in the production of rugs. They are beautfiul, miniature examples of all rug types. The basis of the book was the most important collection of complete saddlebags known in the world. The text by Helmut Reinisch was based upon a talk given by Dr. Käbisch at a collectors meeting in Munich. For two decades Dr. Käbisch as a chemist and scientist collected information about saddlebags. With his profound knowledge and enthusiasm he catalogued twenty thousand items without which it would not have been possible to produce this book. The first section of the book contains all the technical details of the weaving structure, colours, dyes, fastenings, shapes and tribal origins. This section is then followed by the illustrations on one page with a complete description on the opposite page. With the help of seventy four illustrations and additional diagrams and tables, it is possible with this book to discover the source of any known saddlebad."--Book jacket
