Draw blood
"Draw Blood" is a collection of poems written by Julia Serano inspired by the pain and shame she experienced growing up and existing as a transsexual woman. With this collection, she "attempts to bring that pain to the surface, to acknowledge it so that [she] might be able to finally move beyond it." She writes about gender identity disorder, cross-dressing, hormone replacement therapy, religion, sex, being in love, spoken word, sexual assault, the murder of transgender woman Gwen Araujo in 2002, dental work, and sex reassignment surgery. She also composes an open letter to Lisa Vogel, the sole proprietor of the annual protest "Camp Trans" outside the Michigan Womyn's Music Festival. The front cover is a photo of Julia taken by Dani Eurynome
