Etruscan art
Otto Brendel's exploration of the art, culture and society of Etruria takes us through the four main periods of creativity: the Villanovan and Orientalizing era, the Archaic era, the Classical era, and culminates in the Helenistic era when Etruscan art became extinct. Like other ancient civilizations the Etruscan people were preoccupied with death and the afterlife and therefore to a large extent Etruscan art is a funerary art. Many of the art forms and objects discussed-ceramics, metalware, jewellery, sculpture and wall painting-are known to us through the discovery of tombs
