The encyclopedia of Cleveland history

'The Encyclopedia of Cleveland History' was first published to an enthusiastic response late in the fall of 1987. Historian James H. Madison of Indiana University called it 'a unique and impressive work of scholarship, ' and Kenneth T. Jackson of Columbia University, editor of the just-released Encyclopedia of New York City, said 'No similar reference work currently exists for any American city....It will help restore pride in the city and in a metropolitan area that has received too much bad news about plant closings and economic hardships in recent decades. Cleveland has a proud and important civic history, and this book will help its citizens learn more of that heritage.'
