Madison of Indiana University called it 'a unique and impressive work of scholarship, ' and Kenneth T. Jackson of Columbia University, editor of the just-released Encyclopedia of New York City, said 'No similar reference work currently exists for any American city....It will help restore pride in the city and in a metropolitan area that has received too much bad news about plant closings and economic hardships in recent decades. Cleveland has a proud and important civic history, and this book will help its citizens learn more of that heritage.'
