The story of a regiment : being a narrative of the service of the Second Regiment, Minnesota Veteran Volunteer Infantry, in the Civil War of 1861 to 1865

The Second Minnesota participated in the first major Union victory at Mill Springs, Kentucky. The regiment was awarded eight Medals of Honor for one action near Nolansville, TN. Its performance was a major factor in earning General George Thomas the sobriquet of "The Rock of Chickamauga." The Second Minnesota led the charge up Missionary Ridge out of Chattanooga, TN, and served all four years of the Civil War, returning home intact
