Mr Hosie's journey to Tibet, 1904 : a report by Mr A. Hosie, His Majesty's Consul at Chengtu, on a journey from Chengtu to the Eastern Frontier of Tibet

Alexander Hosie (Author)
A hundred years ago, Mr. Alex Hosie, the British consul in Chengtu (now Chengdu), China, set out on a three-month trek across southern China to the eastern border of Tibet. In addition to describing the perils of his journey across mountainous terrain, he gives a detailed account of the countryside and its flora and fauna. To the west of Ta-chien-lu (now Kangding), he finds the people are to all intents and purposes Tibetan, and provides a fascinating description of their customs and way of life from a distinctly European perspective. -- from back cover
