The Winchcombe and Coventry chronicles : hitherto unnoticed witnesses to the work of John of Worcester
Historians of medieval English history will welcome this impressive, 2-volume work containing a complete commentary and side-by-side translation of two medieval English annals. The translation, contained in volume two, is clearly organized by document number and date of the entry. The documents are numbered for the convenience of the reader, who will be able to look up the notes for that document in volume one. Hayward (medieval history, Lancaster U., the UK) prefaces the translation with several chapters of in-depth discussion and analysis of the chronicles; their authors; the dating, provenance, creation, and other aspects of the manuscripts; and their contents. A section of color plates of some of the manuscripts is included. The work was published by the Arizona Center for Medieval and Renaissance Studies.
