Die Musealisierung des Holocaust : das Jüdische Museum Berlin und das U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington D.C. : ein Vergleich

Examines two major museums, in the USA and in Germany, from the point of view of cultural history. Traces the public debates concerning the realization of the Holocaust museum in Washington and the Jewish Museum in Berlin, their architecture and exhibitions as expressions of the American versus the German culture of remembrance, and their representative function in today's political context. Emphasizes that the U.S Holocaust Memorial Museum serves as a Jewish as well as an American memorial, whereas the Jewish Museum in Berlin views itself as a German historical museum, which guards the memory of Nazi crimes as well as the memory of annihilated German-Jewish culture.
