Chinuk Wawa : kakwa nsayka ulman-tilixam laska munk-kemteks nsayka = as our elders teach us to speak it

The first Chinuk Wawa-English dictionary was published in 2001 both to preserve the language of the Grand Ronde people of eastern Oregon, and to provide a resource for teachers and learners. This edition incorporates many more illustrative sentences to demonstrate how earlier speakers were able to express whatever they wanted, many of these cross-referenced to sample texts that are appended as a new independent section. Also new are a sketch of Chinuk Wawa grammar; etymological notes on the origins of words; and a supplementary vocabulary of words, expressions, and meanings that are known from other parts of the greater lower Columbia River region but have not been passed down from Grand Ronde elders. An English-Chinuk Wawa section keys to the main section. Distributed in the US by University of Washington Press. Annotation ©2012 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
