Dr. George Gilmer was born in 1742-3 to Dr. George Gilmer and his second wife Mary Peachy Walker. He was sent to his father's native Scotland for his medical education and returned to Williamsburg. He moved to Albemarle County where his married his cousin Lucy Walker, the daughter of Dr. Thomas Walker. George settled at Pen Park. An ardent patriot, he served in the Revolutionary War
