Bonny, located in Kit Carson County, Colorado, was already recognized as a community, when a post office was established there in 1915 in the general store, with Issac Bonny as the first postmaster. In 1920, Charlie Barnhart became the postmaster and served until 1924 when the postoffice was closed, with mail going to Burlington. A dam was dedicated in the area in 1952 and now the area is know as the Bonny Dam, Bonny Reservoir, and Bonny recreation area
