A coal miner's simple message
Clyde is the son of Harrison and Lillie Mayes, and Clyde and Catherine describe the lives of this Christian couple in uppereast Tennessee and southeastern Kentucky. Harrison Mayes (1898-1986) was famous for designing and planting Christian-themed signs (prevalent among them "Jesus Is Coming Soon" and "Get Right With God") along area highways. The younger Mayes couple describe their lives, how Harrison worked to design crosses and other religious symbols, newspaper clippings and family photographs, other artwork like barn paintings and benches, and the lasting legacy of their work
