Album du Canal de Suez
Adelphoi Zangaki (Firm) (Photographer), Hippolyte Arnoux (Publisher)
Commercial album produced by Hippolyte Arnoux containing photographs of the Suez Canal by the Zangaki brothers, George and Constantine, from around 1870. The photographs are views of the Suez Canal between Port Said, the northern terminus on the Mediterranean, and Suez at the southern end where it connects to the Gulf of Suez and the Red Sea, all but one signed "Zangaki" by the firm of brothers George and Constantine Zagaki. The album opens with a shot of British ships docked at Port Said, and documents passage through the Canal with views taken at regular intervals along the length of the Canal, highlighting various sections such as the entrance at Ismailia, the curves at El Guirs and Toussoum, and the connection at Lake Timsah. Of special interest is the photo of a line of Syrian camel drivers crossing the Canal at Kantara
