Godard's first film about a small-time gangster who, after stealing a car, casually kills a policeman on the highway. Returning to Paris to secure some money to leave the country, he tries to persuade his American girlfriend to flee with him to Italy; but, after helping him to hide, she betrays him to the police who shoot him down in the street as he half-heartedly attempts escape
