"One of Nicaragua's main exports is its own people: men, women, adolescents, children who continue their tradition of seeking a better life where they can. Migrations, whether to escape war or poverty, are now part of the world's landscape. "Desde el Barro al Sur" is a documentary film that records the images of Nicaragua's most profound reality, giving flesh, voice and feeling to the thousands of people who uprooted their lives and set off to neighboring Cosa Rica. Its characters describe why they left and their survival strategies once there. It is the women, mainly, victims of postwar society and unwitting and unwilling subjects of the global market's new economic order, who give us their experiences of the eternal journey that poverty has made of their lives, forcing them to be emigrants from their own land. This history is structured in chapters, mixing both documentary and reportage styles to provide the vision of Nicaraguan migrants in different sites of Costa Rica."--Container
