Throughout the world, issues arise due to the action of the natural environment when it interacts with people and their infrastructure. The hazard is often entirely natural and on such a large scale that it becomes very destructive. In other instances, people have engaged in an activity whereby a natural phenomenon has been made into a major hazard.
