"This series explores the interrelationships of a white family and their black housekeeper during a turbulent period of American history. Set in a small town during the 1950s, 'I'll Fly Away' depicts a southern community struggling through a period of intense change, and how that community copes with the changing relationships between the races as the American civil rights movement is born."--1991 Peabody Awards entry form.
