Cinematographer James Wong Howe has applied his artistry to the making of films for over 55 years. Noted for his work in The Prisoner of Zenda, Abe Lincoln in Illinois, Yankee Doodle Dandy and Body and Soul, Howe received Oscars for The Rose Tatoo and Hud. To show the film student how light can be used to create strong visual images which complement the story, Howe lights the same set for afternoon, sunset and night. In each lighting situation, he sets his key light and proceeds to build up the lighting according to the effect he wishes to create
