"[S]tory of Dr. Kubi, an army doctor, idealistic, rational and committed to a scientific approach, and innocent Iyaala, an adolescent Christian girl of Bairapura, a remote small town. The creaky bone-rattler of a bus carrying Dr. Kubi to Bairapura meets with an accident near a rock by the side of the road. Injured passengers say it is caused by the 'Rana' (Spirit) which dwells in the rock. The amused doctor, on reaching the hospital, meets the compounder, Ramaraya, a funny character who treats the patients in a crude and careless manner. Dr. Kubi ridicules the myth of spirit. He decides to remove the rock which is the root cause of all the accidents and superstitious belief of the vilagers. He meets several people from different walks of the life, but finds to his utter amazement that nobody is interested in removing the rock nor repaireing the road. Finally when the rock is being removed due to the efforts of Dr. Kubi, the trouble starts! Innocent girl Iyaala is murdered, superstitious villagers blame Dr. Kubi for provoking the Rana (Spirit) of the rock!"--Container
