Lino the gardener is falsely accused of committing robbery with homicide. He escapes from prison and leads the life of a fugitive, bitter against the oppression and social injustice of the system which incarcerated him. The redoubtable Lino finds himself defending an enlightened landlord against the threats of the Huks, the dissident peasants of Central Luzon. However through the help of kindhearted people, Lino is made to understand the futility of leading a fugitive life in the mountains
