Set in the Visayan Islands, a middle aged woman and her daughter, Dideth, live together and struggle to make a living. The daughter wants to go abroad to find work with her boyfriend but hates to leave the mother, who drinks, alone. Years before the mother had lost her husband and was forced to give up her other daughter (Millie) to an old school friend who couldn't have children. When she meets this daughter years later she finds that Millie has been spoiled and is a mean thoughtless young woman. When DIdeth and her mother fight, Dideth runs away and starts working as an entertainer in a club. The mother searches everywhere for Dideth but can't find her. One day when walking in the park she comes on a gang who is trying to rape Millie and in the process of trying to save her, kills one of the attackers. The daughter and boyfriend run away and the mother refuses to say why she did it. Didette returns to help her mother when she finds out she's been arrested but the mother refused to talk about what happened. A young man (Mateo) that she has been nice to for years and has become a lawyer and returns to represent her
