Mistress Madeleine
In Rupert's Land in the 1850s, some Metis are becoming frustrated with the Hudson's Bay Company's monopoly on the fur trade and are trading with the Americans. Madeleine, a Metis woman, is caught between her 'husband', Charles, a Company official, and her brother, Joseph, a free trader. However, Charles goes to England to be confirmed as the new factor of his trading post, and returns with an English wife. Madeleine and her children return to her people, and Madeleine saves Joseph from arrest by the Company men and warns them that the Metis will fight the Company
