Modeling a hostage crisis : formalizing the negotiation process

Abstract: "The objective of this project is the creation of a prototype automated negotiator, based on a strategic model of negotiation. This work is undertaken as part of the development of a simulation environment of a real-world situation, in which negotiators can be trained and experiments conducted. This report presents a detailed discussion of the substantive background of a hostage crisis. In the process of developing a strategic model of negotiations, we began with a hypothetical case of an international crisis involving three parties: Israel, terrorists, and Egypt. From this case, we were able to formalize the general process of negotiation under crisis conditions
