Naval Log Book, 1850-1852
Log book of various ships contains daily entries concerning weather and activities aboard ship. Includes narrative account (with casualties) of the Lagos Expedition in November and December 1851 during which the author played an active part on H.M.S. WATERWITCH in an attempt to dethrone King Cocioco (who had refused to sign a treaty promising to suppress slave traffic and had forbidden access to British men-of-war) and to place his brother Akkati on the throne. Other sections include partial logs of H.M.S. IMAUM (Port Royal, Jamaica), H.M.S. FISGARD (Woolwich), and H.M. Steam Frigate SAMPSON (Lagos and Sierra Leone). Includes manuscript map of the entrance to Lagos Harbor
