Bane discusses his early childhood moving from town to town and eventually settling in Burbank, Calif. He continues with working at Bullocks-Wishire while attending Los Angeles City College, later working as a mail carrier and insurance agent, changing party registration from Republican to Democrat, involvement in local politics, and running for the 42nd Assembly District seat. He continues with the formation of the California Democratic Council, left-wing political organizations, communist party members, winning an Assembly seat, arriving in Sacramento in 1958, encounters with Jesse Unruh, committee assigments, working with Gov. Pat Brown, the decision to run for Congress in 1964 and his retirement in 1989. Major issues covered include the Rumford Fair Housing Act, Bane's oppostion to Carmen Warschaw as national Democratic party committee person, ruling allowing legislators to hire consultants, opposition to Prop. 14, anti-discrimination legislation, Charles Keating and the savings & loan scandal, introducing legislation establishing state funding for lupus research, A.B. 2392 and the power of the NRA, and term limits
