Overmann, ca. 1440-1969
C. T. Overman (Composer)
Christian Friedrich Overmann (1795-1836), whose Overmann ancestors had moved from Holland to Hamburg several generations earlier, immigrated from Germany to the West Indies (later called the Antilles), and in 1819 married Henrietta Adelaide Lind in St. Thomas, one of the Danish West Indies. He built his main home in St. Thomas, but also owned plantations in many other islands, and died while visiting his plantation in Puerto Rico. Descendants and relatives lived in the Danish West Indies (later the Virgin Islands of the United States), and in other others of the Antilles. They intermarried with other residents of these islands, whose ancestry came from Denmark, Germany, The Netherlands, Belgium, England and elsewhere. Some Overman descendants moved to British Columbia and elsewhere in Canada
