Abstract: The second in a three-part series in which historian Dan Snow looks back at the history of three major cities in terms of their public health and hygiene. This part features Paris at the time of the revolution. CGI footage shows how toxic the streets were and the extent of poverty and disease rife in the city. Snow visits a perfumer to recreate the stench of the city, he tans leather and gets a glimpse of the private rooms of infamous Queen Marie Antoinette. The famous guillotine is discussed as well as the overflowing cemetries. However, the revolution was to transform the city and give birth to a new republic. (Producer)
