Slander

Mimi Nguyen, currently a professor at the University of Illinois, with no. 8 makes her first zine in 12 years after reading at the POC Zine Project's "Meet me at the Race Riot" event at Barnard College. The zine reads like a research paper, with references to Foucault and a critical analysis of the queer cult classic punk film "Times Square." Mimi writes about current attempts to "legitimize" by writing about it in academia, critiques academic essays on the U.S. and U.K. punk movements, and analyzes the presence (or lack thereof) of people of color in the Riot Grrrl and zine communities. She also includes a personal essay about her experiences as a punk and her community's reactions to Ronald Reagan's death
