The Vroom-Yetton decision tree as a working computer model

Leaders in the fire service make many large, medium and small non-emergency decisions in the course of their jobs. It is often the case that the problem with decisions that were not successful is not with the quality of the decisions, but with the process of how and with whom they were implemented. Of the several modes available to process the decision, only one is most appropriate, as explained by Vroom and Yetton in their decision tree model. The research method used by the author was to provide an in-house computer model of the Vroom-Yetton decision tree for use by the author's department officers. It was coupled with a database system that recorded and tabulated the results of the study
