The Yu Chi Chan Club
Vaughan Giose, explores his father's commitment to the struggle for justice in South Africa from the 1950's to the present day. In 1963, Gerald Giose was part of a small cell of resistance fighters within Umkhonto we Sizwe (MK) known as the Yu Chi Chan Club. This secret group was plotting acts of sabotage in the Western Cape. These were the first armed actions which spearheaded the armed struggle against apartheid. Founded in July 1962, its members included Neville Alexander, Dulcie September, Elizabeth van der Heyden, Ottilie Abrahams, Fikile Bam and Andreas Shipinga. One by one they were arrested. The Yu Chi Chan Club was also an affiliate of the National Liberation Front which was established to bring all the liberation armies in Southern Africa together
