This the third film in a series entitled Comics, the ninth art, which explores the history and development of the comic book as an artistic entity in its own right. The period 1920-1930 saw the appearance of the serial comic, featuring satirical, humorous, family and situational strips, each episode of which ended with the immortal words "To be continued ..." The film highlights comic book characters that were popular during the twenties and the Depression, including Blondie Little Orphan Annie, Betty Boop, Krazy Kat and Popeye. Includes commentary by Dennis Gifford and Maurice Horn
