Uyghur : an intermediate textbook

Gulnisa Nazarova (Author), Kuerban Niyazi (Author)
Uyghur is a Turkic language used by about 8-11 million speakers in the Xinjiang Province of the People's Republic of China. This textbook is for students who have completed elementary level coursework in Uyghur. It provides learners with a wide variety of task-oriented, communicative activities that develop the four language skills (speaking, listening, reading, and writing) using authentic texts. Topics covered include family, work, school, places of interest, occupations, current events, health problems, and social issues faced by the Uyghur society today. The textbook is designed to provide a visual tour of the Uyghur homeland and is based on the imaginary experiences of John, an American student who receives a scholarship to travel and study in Xinjiang at the university. Following a minimum of 160 hours of intensive language instruction, students should reach the Intermediate High to Advanced-Mid/High proficiency levels on the ACTFL proficiency scale. The book includes Uyghur-English and English-Uyghur glossaries. An accompanying CD-ROM provides recorded dialogues and authentic video segments filmed throughout central Asia
