Deviance, conformity, and social control in Canada
Tami M. Bereska (Author)
"The sociology of deviance is a diverse field of study, and this diversity is reflected in the content of Canadian texts that are available. Some books are based on theory, with separate chapters on each category of deviance theory and specific deviance examples to illustrate components of those theories. These books provide a thorough description and critical analysis of a wide range of theories, but if there is one way to make a fascinating subject like deviance rather dull in the eyes of students (as they have repeatedly pointed out to me), it is to bombard them with theory for the sake of theory. In contrast, this eText reviews theories of deviance in two chapters, but the remaining chapters focus on substantive issues, bringing in relevant theories when doing so can meaningfully contribute to the overall “story” being told within a particular section of the chapter and within the chapter as a whole."-- Provided by publisher
