Differences in Latino social services utilization rates based on generational status
Abstract: This study explored the differences in knowledge of and usage of social services among Latino populations based on generational status, using a quantitative descriptive research design. The sample recruited for this study was composed of 51 female and 24 male participants attending voluntary religious groups through a Catholic Church in Riverside County, California. The findings from this study indicated a significantly lower level of knowledge of social services among first generation Latinos and other generations. The majority of the participants knew of social service programs and services. There were very low levels of utilization of social services by all participants, and no statistically significant difference in utilization by generation. Implications for social work practice and directions for future research are discussed
